Welcoming Odinga’s instruction, Philip Etale, the Orange Democratic Movement’s communications director, said the opposition will continue to hold the current regime accountable under the constitution, which stipulates that the protests should end at 5pm.

Odinga considered the first day of protests a success as the government responded attentively to protesters’ complaints.

However, despite requests from religious leaders and other parties, he refrained from dialogue with President William Ruto.

The Kenya Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KCCB) also called on President William Ruto to address similar concerns as the Azimio la Umoja coalition, including repealing the Finance Bill 2023 and reducing the cost of living.

On Wednesday, July 19, Odinga remained silent throughout the day during the anti-government protest, despite expectations from pro-government allies.

Police and his supporters said he would lead the first day of the three-day demonstrations, which would end on Friday, July 21.
